Installing Real-Time Mach NTT Release 2.0 (1999/02/22)

This guide assumes that you are familiar with FreeBSD installation. Consult documentations for the details of FreeBSD.

This software is provided by "as is" without any implied warranties. Be sure to make backup of your disk before installation.

A. Installing RT-Mach from CD-ROM

To install Real-Time Mach, you'll need at least 100MBytes of free disk space. This includes disk space for a minimum FreeBSD 2.2.8-RELEASE environment which is needed by Real-Time Mach. You must NOT install on the Windows or DOS partition! Installation procedure will entirely erase your data.

  1. Boot from CD-ROM or make a boot floppy disk.
To install on to your Desktop PC:
If your system is bootable from CD-ROM (usually an option which can be enabled in the PC BIOS or controller's setup menu), put disc1 on your CD-ROM drive and boot the system to begin installation.

Otherwise, build a FreeBSD boot floppy from the /floppies/boot.flp file in disc1. Refer to /floppies/README.txt for more information on creating bootable floppies. Then reboot the system using created boot floppy disk to begin installation.

To install on to your Notebook PC:
Build a FreeBSD boot floppy from the /floppies/boot-pao.flp file in disc1. Refer to floppies/README.txt for more information on creating bootable floppies. Then reboot the machine using created boot floppy disk to begin installation.

When using boot floppy, make sure you have made one from this CD-ROM distribution. boot.flp, boot-pao.flp are modified for Real-Time Mach installation.

  2. When booted by CD-ROM or floppy disc, you automatically enter the sysinstall menu. First, install FreeBSD. Installation takes approximately 15 to 50 min.

  3. After completing the installation of FreeBSD, goto Configure section in sysinstall. Select RT-Mach in configure menu.

RT-Mach is provided as a FreeBSD package.

    Notes:Do not select both packages.

  4. After the completion of installation, reboot your system. Select rtmach for the kernel (enter rtmach with boot: prompt).

  5. We are now ready. Enjoy!

B. Upgrading from FreeBSD 2.2.8

  1. Mount disc1.

  2. For Desktop PC, add package /packages/rtmach/rtmach-nr2-dsk.tgz on disc1 by pkg_add. For Notebook PC, add package /packages/rtmach/rtmach-nr2-lap.tgz on disc1 by pkg_add.

  3. Instead of pkg_add you may use /stand/sysinstall utility. In this case, specify /packages/rtmach for the package path.

  4. Reboot the system and select rtmach for the kernel at boot: prompt.

  5. Enjoy RT-Mach!
